Nepal is a land of extreme contrasts in climate and geography. Nepal has been endowed with a great diversity of life zones providing a home for a large variety of plants, birds and animals.
The Terai lowland, belt of well-watered floods plains northward, is the richest habitat in the land with tall grasslands interspersed with ravening and hardwood sal forests. Swamp Deer, Black buck, Blue bull, the Royal Bengal Tiger, Gharial, Mugger Crocodiles, Asiatic Wild Buffalo are the habitants of this area. The presence of variety of birds such as Spiny Babblers ‘Kandey Vyakurr’(exists in Nepal only), Orioles, koels, Drongos, peacocks and Floricans, different types of colorful Pheasants and multitude of wild fowls has enhanced the beauty of the area.
